ACEN 001 (Academic English 1) is a required language skills course with a special focus on English for academic settings. The level of the course is high elementary (CEFR Level A2). The purpose of the course is to prepare students with the language skills necessary for Core courses offered in the English language. It is required for students scoring lower than a IELTS 6 or B1 on the placement test.

Academic English is a required language skills course with a special focus on English for academic settings. The level of the course is high intermediate (CEFR Level B1 - B2). The purpose of the course is to prepare students with the language skills necessary for Core courses offered in the English language. The language requirement for this course is IELTS 6 or B1 on placement test.
Objectives:
Understand meaning and use information in an academic setting.
Take notes on academic subjects for strengthened understanding and retention.
Extract key information from a variety of academic-related audio and video materials.
Prepare and deliver English presentations for an academic setting.
Write different sentence types with proper syntax, grammar, and mechanics.
Brainstorm a writing topic and write a cohesive paragraph with a topic sentence, supporting sentences, and a conclusion statement.

1. Chemistry I is an introductory course designed to provide students with a fundamental understanding of the principles and concepts of chemistry.
§ Calendar description: Atomic structure, chemical bonding, states of matter, chemical reactions and stoichiometry, the periodic table, and basic thermodynamics concepts. Emphasis is placed on developing problem-solving skills, critical thinking, and a solid foundation for further studies in chemistry.
§ Required background knowledge/ skills: proficiency in high-school mathematics is necessary.
§ Expanded course description: To solve chemical problems, scientists evaluate facts, apply concepts, and perform mathematical calculations. You will memorize language and facts, as well as concepts and calculations used by scientists to describe matter and the things that different types of matter do. Chemistry I course does not include hands-on laboratory experiments, but it does discuss real-world industrial problems. Together, the theory and industrial experience provide scientists and engineers with an introduction to chemical thinking.
