Academic English is a required language skills course with a special focus on English for academic settings. The level of the course is high intermediate (CEFR Level B1 - B2). The purpose of the course is to prepare students with the language skills necessary for Core courses offered in the English language. The language requirement for this course is IELTS 6 or B1 on placement test. The course focuses on reading and writing skills with supplement activities on listening and speaking, summarizations that address the departmental specialization. Students will learn key academic skills such as note-taking, the organization of a written text (including essays, signal words), summarizing of lectures and readings, paraphrasing, time-management, disagreement language, verbal description of statistics, and clarification language.
